What makes Spanish sound right

Spanish is one of the easiest languages for a speech engine to read, because its spelling maps closely to sound. The choices that matter are accent and pace: Castilian Spanish pronounces "z" and soft "c" as a "th" sound (distinción), while most of Latin America uses an "s" sound (seseo).

Tips for better Spanish audio

  • Pick "Spanish (Spain)" for Castilian pronunciation or "Spanish (Latin America)" for seseo and Latin American intonation.
  • Keep the inverted marks ¿ and ¡. They are how the engine knows a sentence is a question or exclamation from the first word.
  • Write numbers as words when the gender matters: "veintiuna páginas", not "21 páginas".
  • For learners, choose the "Slow & clear" style and add [pause 1s] after each phrase so you have time to repeat it.

Questions people ask

Is Spanish text to speech free?

Yes. Paste up to 5,000 characters of Spanish text, choose a voice and download the MP3 with no account. An hourly fair-use limit applies to the AI voices; device voices on the Read Aloud page are unlimited.

Which voice is best for Spanish?

Every voice speaks every supported language. For Spanish, good starting points are Kore, Charon, Aoede, Sulafat. Audition two with your own first sentence — the difference is character and register, not accuracy.

Can I use Spanish text to speech to practise pronunciation?

Yes. Choose the "Slow & clear" delivery, lower the pace to 0.8×, and put [pause 1s] after each phrase so you have time to repeat it aloud (shadowing). Download the MP3 to practise offline.

Can I mix languages in one script?

Yes. Set the language to "Detect from text" and the voice will switch naturally between languages, for example an English lesson with Spanish example phrases.
