What makes a British accent sound right

A British accent is more than swapping a few vowels. Most southern British speakers drop the "r" at the end of words ("car" has no final r), use a long "ah" in words like "bath" and "castle", and pronounce "t" crisply in "water". The British English setting asks the voice to use these features throughout.

Tips for better British English audio

  • Use British spellings (colour, programme, centre). They do not change the sound much, but keep the script consistent.
  • Watch dates: "3/4" is read by UK listeners as 3 April. Write "the third of April" to be safe.
  • Words like "schedule", "tomato" and "garage" differ between accents — the British setting handles them.
  • For a formal UK announcement feel, try the Newsreader style with the Charon or Iapetus voice.
