What makes Hindi sound right

Hindi is written in Devanagari, a script where each letter maps closely to a sound, so a good engine mostly has to get two things right: the inherent vowel that is dropped at the end of many words (schwa deletion, which turns "कमल" into "kamal", not "kamala") and natural sentence melody. Neural voices learn both from real recordings.

Tips for better Hindi audio

  • Type in Devanagari for the most accurate reading. Romanised Hindi ("aap kaise ho") works with "Detect from text", but spelling varies and so does the result.
  • Hinglish scripts that mix English words into Hindi read naturally: keep English words in Latin letters.
  • Use the danda (।) or a full stop at the end of sentences so the voice pauses in the right places.
  • For learners, the "Slow & clear" style plus [pause 1s] after each sentence gives you time to repeat.

Questions people ask

Is Hindi text to speech free?

Yes. Paste up to 5,000 characters of Hindi text, choose a voice and download the MP3 with no account. An hourly fair-use limit applies to the AI voices; device voices on the Read Aloud page are unlimited.

Which voice is best for Hindi?

Every voice speaks every supported language. For Hindi, good starting points are Kore, Sulafat, Charon, Achird. Audition two with your own first sentence — the difference is character and register, not accuracy.

Can I use Hindi text to speech to practise pronunciation?

Yes. Choose the "Slow & clear" delivery, lower the pace to 0.8×, and put [pause 1s] after each phrase so you have time to repeat it aloud (shadowing). Download the MP3 to practise offline.

Can I download Hindi text to speech as MP3?

Yes. After the Hindi audio renders, press Download MP3 (or WAV). The file is encoded in your browser, so there is no upload step, no watermark and no account.

How natural do the Hindi AI voices sound?

They are neural voices from Google's Gemini speech model, trained on real recordings, so rhythm and intonation are much closer to a human reader than older robotic engines. Accuracy is highest with correctly spelled text; unusual names may need a phonetic spelling.

Can I mix languages in one script?

Yes. Set the language to "Detect from text" and the voice will switch naturally between languages, for example an English lesson with Spanish example phrases.
