What makes Korean sound right

Hangul is spelled by syllable blocks, but Korean is not always read the way it is written: sounds change across block boundaries, so 국물 is said "gungmul" and 같이 is said "gachi". These sound-change rules are exactly what neural voices pick up from recorded speech.

Tips for better Korean audio

  • Write numbers the way they should be said: native Korean (하나, 둘) and Sino-Korean (일, 이) numbers are used in different contexts.
  • Use spaces between words (띄어쓰기) correctly; it helps the voice group syllables.
  • Polite -요 endings suit Natural or Warm delivery; formal -습니다 scripts suit Newsreader.
  • For shadowing practice, add [pause 1s] after each sentence and lower the pace to 0.85×.

Questions people ask

Is Korean text to speech free?

Yes. Paste up to 5,000 characters of Korean text, choose a voice and download the MP3 with no account. An hourly fair-use limit applies to the AI voices; device voices on the Read Aloud page are unlimited.

Which voice is best for Korean?

Every voice speaks every supported language. For Korean, good starting points are Leda, Kore, Puck, Charon. Audition two with your own first sentence — the difference is character and register, not accuracy.

Can I use Korean text to speech to practise pronunciation?

Yes. Choose the "Slow & clear" delivery, lower the pace to 0.8×, and put [pause 1s] after each phrase so you have time to repeat it aloud (shadowing). Download the MP3 to practise offline.

Can I download Korean text to speech as MP3?

Yes. After the Korean audio renders, press Download MP3 (or WAV). The file is encoded in your browser, so there is no upload step, no watermark and no account.

How natural do the Korean AI voices sound?

They are neural voices from Google's Gemini speech model, trained on real recordings, so rhythm and intonation are much closer to a human reader than older robotic engines. Accuracy is highest with correctly spelled text; unusual names may need a phonetic spelling.

Can I mix languages in one script?

Yes. Set the language to "Detect from text" and the voice will switch naturally between languages, for example an English lesson with Spanish example phrases.
